Abstract
The subreflector of the 70-m antenna moves in threes axes|the x-, y-, and zdirections|and rotates about the z-axis. The subreflector controller performs the motion control of these movements. In order to maintain antenna pointing accuracy, the subreflector must focus the radio frequency beam that moves with the structural deformations as the antenna rotates in azimuth and elevation. This article presents analysis and development of the control system model of the subreflector positioner, describes the control system specifications, and presents the control system performance, such as overshoot, settling time, bandwidth, and phase and gain margins.
