Abstract

This article discusses the purposes and performance of the Dual-Channel MuII Sequential Ranging equipment in both the laboratory and field. Measurements were made to quantify the degradation introduced by the exciter, receiver, Ranging Subsystem, and spacecraft transponder. Additionally, both long- and short-term group delay stability is discussed. Finally, experimental data obtained during the Mariner Venus/Mercury 1973 mission are presented to show the utility of the machine.
