Abstract

This report describes the Productivity Information Management System (PIMS), which is being developed at JPL. The main objective of this computerized system is to enable management scientists to interactively explore data concerning DSN operations, maintenance and repairs, in order to develop and verify models for management planning. Thus, PIMS will provide users with a powerful set of tools for iteratively manipulating data sets in a wide variety of ways. Most current database systems are designed to support a narrow range of predetermined types of queries. Thus, the design of PIMS includes unique, stateof-the-art features. The initial version of PIMS will be a useful but small-scale pilot system. This report (1) discusses the motivation for developing PIMS, (2) describes the various data sets which will be integrated by PIMS, (3) sketches the overall design of PIMS, and (4) describes how PIMS will be used. A survey of relevant databases concerning DSN operations at Goldstone is also included.
