Abstract
The Split-Symbol Moments Estimator (SSME) is an algorithm that is designed to estimate symbol signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). This article examines the performance of the SSME algorithm in band-limited channels and quantifies the effects of the resulting intersymbol interference (ISI). All results obtained herein are in closed form and can be easily evaluated numerically for performance prediction purposes. Furthermore, they are validated through digital simulations.
